Dear Members and Friends,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 competition season. Now is the time to join or renew your membership in Equestrian Bahamas. We look forward to an exciting year of competition, education, development and above all, fun!

Equestrian Bahamas embraces every level of rider and all fans of equestrian sport. Through engagement with our partner organizations such the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI), the Caribbean Equestrian Association (CEA), Princeton Equestrian League (PEL) and the Marshall & Sterling (M&S) League, our members have access to a wide range of competitive and educational opportunities.

Junior riders can participate in our Bahamas Interscholastic Equestrian League (BIEL) show series: fun, team-based competitions which provide experience under the intercollegiate competition format. If you want to ride in college, BIEL shows are a must!

Importantly, your membership also helps to further EB’s mission of making equestrian sport accessible to a broader spectrum of Bahamian youth. We look forward to the launch of our FEI Solidarity Project: “Touch a Horse, Touch a Life” in January 2024.

Our first event of the year features the reintroduction of the discipline of Dressage, starting with the Caribbean Equestrian Association’s (CEA) 2023 Mini Dressage Challenge and followed by a Dressage Clinic with FEI Level IV Judge Mr. Cesar Torrente (September 29 – October 1). If you wish to participate in this exciting weekend, be sure to renew your membership in advance, by September 15, 2023. Be sure to speak with your trainer to learn more about how to sign up for, and participate in, the fantastic opportunities available on this special weekend!

We invite members to explore our action-packed calendar of competitions, clinics and social events, and to follow us on social media. Check out our proposed calendar of events for 2023-2024 under the Events tab, and remember to review the EB Code of Ethics, available under the Resources tab.

Calling all volunteers – we are always happy to welcome helping hands! Please contact your trainer if you are interested in becoming a more active part of our team!
Membership fees may be made via online transfer. Please note the name of the EB member(s) on whose behalf the payment is being made. Please direct any questions regarding membership payments to Mrs. Sabrina Wong at [email protected] If you are a horse owner, remember that only registered horses may compete for End of Year points.

Thank you for your support. We look forward to a fantastic year in equestrian sport!

Kacy and Angel finish top 10 at Live Oak in FEI Grand Prix

Congratulations to Kacy Lyn Smith and her 14-yr old Oldenburg gelding D’Angelo 6 for being in the ribbons and in the money in their first FEI Grand Prix together! Kacy and ‘Angel’ were one 30 combinations who took the field in the FEI CSI 1* $5,000 Manestream Logistics Grand Prix at Live Oak International in Ocala, Florida, last weekend. Thousands of jumping fans were on hand to watch the athletes tackle German course designer Olaf Petersen Jr.’s deceptively trickly course of 17 obstacles in the grass Grand Prix field. Several duos picked up time penalties for being over the time allowed, while many more saw their rides unravel as rails hit the ground. In the end only 5 riders advanced to the jump off.

EB President elected Vice-President of 2024 CEA Executive Committee

The Caribbean Equestrian Association held its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, 13th March, 2024. The following persons were elected as the 2024-2025 Executives of the Caribbean Equestrian Association:

  • President: Heidi Shelley Mello (Bermuda)
  • Vice-President: Catherine Ramsingh-Pierre (Bahamas)
  • Treasurer: Heidi Lalor (Jamaica)
  • Secretary: Eve Van den Bol (Cayman Islands)

Equestrian Bahamas extends its congratulations to the newly elected Caribbean Equestrian Association officers.

Bahamian Equestrians Shine in Grand Caraibe Debut

Equestrian athletes Katerina Coello and Sienna Tinker made the most of The Bahamas’ first-ever invitation to the Grand Caraibe Equestrian Competition Tour, using the golden opportunity to showcase their talents and the quality of Bahamian equestrian sport.

The Grand Caraibe Tour is a prestigious, internationally renowned show jumping event highlighting exceptional equestrian talent amongst the southern Caribbean nations of Suriname, French Guyana, Martinique and Guadeloupe. In recent years the competition has begun to involve other nations in the region as the organizers recognize the potential to offer a unique platform to foster inter-Caribbean exchanges.

2023 Caribbean Equestrian Association Mini Jumping Challenge

Riders braved stormy weather to compete in the Bahamas leg of the 2023 Caribbean Equestrian Association Mini Jumping Challenge, meet Bahamian Show Jumper Millie Vlasov and get a chance to see what a 1.50m jump really looks like! Thanks to Moonstone Stables for hosting the event. Congratulations to Team Bahamas members Gabriella Moran, Sienna Jones and Alexis Osazuwa!

Fei Coaching Course A Success

FEI Tutor Jaime Morillo led two fantastic days of learning and fellowship in the FEI Introduction to Olympic Disciplines Coaching Course, held at Mariposa Stables. Congratulations to the six local coaches and three visitors from Bermuda and Cayman Islands who participated. Local coaches who successfully completed the programme included Erika Adderley, Mickael Baillieux, Frances Doyle, Kimberly Johnson, Amber Lleida, and Danielle Lowe. Thank you also to our demonstration riders and all sponsors and supporters who made the event a success.

A successful weekend of learning

Mariposa Monarchs won the hotly contested fall BIEL show at Mariposa Stables by just one point!

Results:
Mariposa Monarchs 1st – 40 points.
CEC Blue Marlins 2nd – 39 points.
Mariposa Gold Drops 3rd – 38 points
CEC Sand Dollars 4th – 35 points.

Congratulations to all riders who received their certificates for successfully completing Rider Certification Exams.
